About Gavin
Hi! I'm Gavin, a recently graduated college math major with a 3.95 GPA and experience tutoring virtually and in-person, in subjects up to and including high school and college calculus.
My central philosophy in tutoring is rooted in communication, trust, and flexibility. I want to sit down with you or your student and get to know your needs and learning style, and figure out together how I can best help you. And if we get started and something doesn't click, I like to think on my feet and get to the root of misunderstandings so we can move forward.
It's also important to me to foster a comfortable and collaborative environment. I love when students feel comfortable asking me questions, correcting calculation mistakes I may have made (let's face it, everyone does!), and even making jokes. Math gets a bad rap, but it doesn't have to be drudgery.

I tutor for any and all math subjects up to and including high school and college Calculus.
In my experience, the best method for lesson planning is to keep things flexible. I like to start by checking in with the student about how they're feeling about the topic and addressing specific questions, before moving on to working problems together and then letting the student try problems on their own while getting to ask questions.
That said, this is just what I've found works with most of my clients, but I'm always open to trying new methods and approaches. If something doesn't click, I haven't done my job as a tutor, and I want to figure out the issue together and fix it together.
