With a heavy background in Pedagogical studies the end goal of all my tutoring sessions is to have primarily student-led discussion. I (along with several, several studies) find that students learn and retain knowledge better with this approach. Students might come in totally clueless about a topic, in which case I quickly arm them with all pertinent knowledge before allowing them to lead discussions while working through problems
