About Caitlin
I’m a college writing instructor and published creative nonfiction writer with over ten years of experience teaching composition, research writing, and literature. I hold an MFA in Creative Writing from Northwestern University and an MA in English, and I’m the author of an award-nominated memoir published by Homebound Publications.
My teaching style is clear, supportive, and practical. I enjoy helping writers build confidence, understand expectations, and develop strategies they can use beyond a single assignment. Whether I’m working with academic essays, personal statements, or creative nonfiction, my goal is always to support the writer’s voice while strengthening clarity and structure.

My tutoring is grounded in how writing is taught in college: rhetorically, process-based, and focused on helping writers develop skills they can use independently. I work with students to understand why a piece of writing works—or doesn’t—so revision feels purposeful rather than overwhelming.
A typical session begins by clarifying the assignment or goal, then addressing higher-order concerns such as thesis, structure, argument, and voice before moving to sentence-level refinement. I model revision strategies, help interpret instructor feedback, and provide clear tools writers can reuse.
What sets me apart is my background as both a longtime college writing instructor and a published creative writer. I’ve taught composition and research writing, worked as a graduate writing consultant, and published award-nominated creative nonfiction, allowing me to support both academic and creative projects.
I work with college and community college students, high school students writing personal essays or college application statements, and creative writers developing personal essays, memoir, or literary nonfiction. I also offer editing support. My goal is to make writing feel more manageable.
