About Shikha
Hi! I'm a graduate student at Columbia University studying Data Science, with an undergraduate degree in Human-Centered Data Science from The University of Texas at Austin. I have experience teaching students at Coding with Kids and my local temple. I truly enjoy making challenging concepts feel approachable and manageable.
Through my studies in data science, I’ve spent years working with algebra, calculus, and statistics, which has taught me how important it is to truly understand a concept rather than simply memorize a formula. I bring that mindset to tutoring by breaking concepts down clearly and helping students understand the reasoning behind each step.
I take each student’s individual goals and learning style into account and aim to create a comfortable environment where they can ask questions and build confidence in their abilities.

My approach to tutoring is centered around making math feel understandable rather than intimidating. I focus on breaking down difficult concepts into smaller steps and honing in on the reasoning behind each solution, so students can develop the confidence to solve problems independently.
A typical lesson begins by identifying what the student is struggling with and reviewing the relevant concepts. We then work through examples together before moving towards practice problems that the student completes independently. I adjust the pace and level of guidance based on the student’s needs, and I like to revisit concepts they find challenging until they feel comfortable with them.
As someone with a background in data science and experience teaching programming and algebra to students ranging from elementary school to early high school, I bring both a strong quantitative foundation and solid background in engaging with students from various backgrounds. My lessons are suited for students looking for support with math coursework, homework, studying, or strengthening their overall understanding of the subject.
