About Hari
Hi, I’m Hari! With a strong foundation in classical Indian music spanning 14+ years and 6+ years of trumpet experience, I bring a unique blend of musical expertise to my teaching. I’ve been recognized with awards in state and regional competitions, including the Santa Cruz Jazz Festival, and have performed as part of selective ensembles such as All-State and 4+ district honor bands. As a dedicated musician and educator, I’ve spent years teaching music and trumpet to students of all levels. My goal is to make music an enjoyable and enriching experience for every student, whether you’re just starting out or looking to refine your skills. Through a focus on technique, creativity, and musical understanding, I’m here to help you achieve your goals and develop a deeper connection to the art of music. Listening is at the heart of everything I teach. I believe that truly understanding music—its emotion, structure, and meaning—is far more important than just playing the notes correctly. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced player, I focus on developing a deep connection to the music through active listening, transcribing solos, and learning to interpret and express yourself authentically.
I emphasize a balance between technical skills and creative exploration. From fun drills to composing assignments, my lessons focus on helping you master the trumpet while unlocking your creativity and improvisational ability. Even if your primary focus is classical or concert playing, the tools and concepts we’ll explore through jazz and music theory will enhance your overall musicianship.
What to Expect in a Typical Lesson
Warm-Up and Technique: Exercises to improve tone, articulation, and control.
Listening and Transcription: We’ll work on developing your ear by transcribing and analyzing great solos.
