About Lamis
Welcome! I’m Lamis. I have been playing the piano for over 20 years. I grew up in Cairo, Egypt, where playing musical instruments wasn’t very common, but my father, a music lover, wanted his children to be exposed to as many cultural and artistic influences as possible. At 18, I made the life-changing decision to leave my Economics studies and pursue music professionally. In 2021, I received the Robert Turnbull Foundation grant to complete my master’s degree at Roosevelt University in Chicago, studying under Dr. Wael Farouk. Later, I moved to New York to pursue further professional studies in Piano Performance at the Manhattan School of Music on a full scholarship. Currently, I am a Doctoral Candidate in the Piano Department at Rutgers University, studying with Dr. Karina Bruk. I also serve as a secondary piano instructor and guest lecturer. With 13 years of teaching experience, I have worked with both children and adults, helping students develop time management, problem-solving skills, and personalized strategies for navigating their repertoire alongside their daily commitments. My goal is to foster a safe, judgment-free learning environment filled with encouragement and trust. I believe that a teacher’s role extends beyond teaching notes and techniques—it is about inspiring, instilling joy, and building confidence in those around them. I look forward to sharing the joy of music with you!

I started taking lessons with Lamis in January of this year, and in just a short time, I’ve learned so much, from music theory to developing my musicality and confidence at the piano. She provided thoughtful, constructive feedback that truly helped me grow. I’m sad to be moving and having to discontinue my lessons, but I’ll carry everything she taught me forward.
