About Josephine
I am a classically-trained flutist holding degrees in Flute Performance from the respected flute programs at Carnegie Mellon University (Master of Music, 2025) and the Oberlin Conservatory of Music (Bachelor of Music, 2020). I've taught privately since 2018 to all ages and skill levels, having been a Secondary Lesson Teacher at Oberlin, substitute teaching staff at the Steranka Flute Studio LLC, and also having taught in public schools through programs such as the River City School of Brass and the UCLA Lab School.
Due to my background as a performance librarian, I am precise about each student's individual learning needs and organized in lesson plans and practice strategies. I facilitate open communication in each teacher-student relationship and am always eager to discuss any flute-related concerns or ideas you may have!

As your teacher, I wholeheartedly believe that my primary role is to be your go-to resource for all things flute and music! I’ve been extremely lucky to have studied under the most gracious, transparent, and caring musicians; I strive to continue this tradition of healthy and productive learning in my studio as well.
My teaching philosophy is heavily based in making sure students are comfortable playing in their bodies and prioritizing both mental and physical performance health. No matter what we're working on, whether it's a super technical etude, that Disney song that's been stuck in your head, or just spending a lesson on how we should breathe - I want our time to be a safe space for you to explore your relationship with music so it develops how YOU want it to. Whether that's through playing your favorite pop tunes, delving into classical repertoire, or reading duets together, I'm here to support you.

Details
I currently operate on a semesterly tuition system, where enrolled students have the option to pay in full or in monthly installments. While my standard teaching rate is $85/hour (for one-off, bi-weekly, monthly, or otherwise infrequent lessons), I offer discounted rates for both monthly installments ($82.50/hour) and full semester payment ($80/hour). The first 30-minute consultation lesson is always free-of-charge! ･ᴗ･
Travel fees will vary based on mileage - please feel free to contact me for more detailed information about studio policy and rates.
