About Gabriel
I'm an American living in Manaus, Brazil, where I've built a life far from where I started. I came here for love — my wife is Brazilian — and staying meant learning to navigate a world where English wasn't the default. That experience changed how I think about language: not as something you study, but something you live in.
Professionally, I work in AI and digital content, which means I spend my days reading, writing, and evaluating English at a high level. I know the difference between technically correct and genuinely fluent, and I care about that distinction.
Outside of work, I write, create, and explore ideas. I'm curious by nature and I take language seriously — not in a rigid way, but in the way you take something seriously when you know it matters.
Teaching English felt like a natural extension of all of this. I have something useful to offer: native fluency, professional experience with the written language, and a firsthand understanding of what it means to be an adult learner trying to close that last gap between good and effortless.

My approach to teaching conversational English is practical, direct, and built around real communication — not textbook exercises.
My Teaching Method
As a native English speaker, I teach the language as it's actually used: natural rhythm, connected speech, idiomatic phrasing, and the spelling logic (and illogic) that advanced learners need to master. I currently live in Brazil and am learning Portuguese myself, which keeps me sharp on what the learning process actually feels like from the inside — the frustration, the patterns, the breakthroughs. That perspective shapes how I teach.
A Typical Lesson
Lessons open with 10–15 minutes of free conversation on a topic the student chooses — current events, work, travel, anything. I listen actively, noting pronunciation habits and unnatural phrasing, and we work through them in the second half. For pronunciation, I use minimal pair drills and focus on stress and intonation, not just individual sounds. For spelling, I focus on patterns — etymology, silent letters, vowel combinations — so students build a system rather than memorizing word by word.

I'm not just a native speaker — I'm someone who thinks carefully about how language works. Living abroad and learning a new language myself means I understand the gap between knowing a language and truly feeling at home in it. I bring patience, genuine curiosity, and the ability to explain things a native speaker usually takes for granted.
