About Zahraa
My teaching approach is practical, engaging, and tailored to each student's individual goals. As a practicing criminal defense lawyer with two years of experience, I combine academic knowledge with real courtroom experience to help students understand not only the law but how it is applied in practice. I believe the best learning comes from connecting legal principles with real-world examples, developing critical thinking, and building confidence.
Teaching Techniques & Methodology
Every lesson is adapted to the student's level and learning objectives. I explain complex legal concepts in a clear and structured way, using case law, practical scenarios, and problem-based learning to strengthen understanding. Lessons focus on developing legal reasoning, statutory interpretation, case analysis, legal writing, and exam technique, while encouraging students to think like lawyers rather than simply memorizing legal principles.
Typical Lesson Length
Lessons are typically 60 minutes, providing enough time to cover new material, work through problem questions, and review areas requiring additional support. Longer sessions are available for assignment assistance, exam preparation, or intensive revision.
Qualifications & Professional Experience
I am a practicing criminal defense lawyer with two years of experience appearing regularly as an advocate in criminal law matters. I represent both private clients and those funded by Victoria Legal Aid across all areas of criminal law.
My experience includes:
• Appearing as an advocate in duty lawyer services, bail applications, contested mentions, intervention order hearings, and other criminal proceedings across Victorian courts.
• Instructing in criminal law trials and appeals, preparing legal documents, and advising clients on a broad range of criminal law matters.
• Appearing across the Magistrates', County, and Supreme Courts of Victoria.
• Managing high-volume court lists while supporting clients, including those affected by trauma, violence, and other vulnerabilities.
• Providing legal advice and representation to Arabic-speaking clients, enabling me to communicate complex legal concepts clearly in both English and Arabic.
This practical courtroom experience allows me to provide students with insights that go beyond textbooks, helping them understand how criminal law operates in real legal practice.
Who My Lessons Are For
My lessons are suitable for:
• VCE Legal Studies students.
• Undergraduate law students, particularly those studying criminal law, evidence, criminal procedure, or advocacy.
• Students preparing for exams, assignments, mooting competitions, or practical legal training.
• Anyone seeking to strengthen their understanding of criminal law or develop practical legal skills.
My goal is to help students achieve strong academic results while developing the analytical skills, legal reasoning, and confidence needed to succeed in both law school and legal practice.
