About Antonius
I studied Criminology and Sociology at the University of Sussex, graduating with a high 2:1. My dissertation explored “How do young adults use fashion and music derived from subcultures to form and express their deviant identities?”, with a focus on identity construction, the role of subcultures, and the impact of social groups on music and fashion choices. Alongside this, I was awarded Firsts in essays that critically engaged with theorists such as Bourdieu and Goffman. In particular, I explored how concepts like habitus, capital, and field shape our understanding of the body, social hierarchies, and identity, extending these frameworks to contemporary contexts such as digital media and online culture. I also examined issues in urban sociology, penology, and inequality, highlighting how classic theory continues to inform modern debates. Since graduating, I’ve travelled extensively across Southeast Asia, which has given me a more global outlook and taught me the importance of flexibility, communication, and connecting with people from different backgrounds. These experiences have shaped my teaching style — I combine academic depth with a relaxed, approachable manner that makes lessons supportive and engaging. Sociology and Criminology remain my favourite subjects to teach at GCSE, A-level, and undergraduate level.
