About Emma
In November 2024, I will be graduating with a First in MA Curating from the University of Kent. Before this, I graduated from Canterbury ChristChurch University with a 2:1 in BA History.
I jumped from one discipline to another because I initially wanted to work within the museum sector. After attending the first few months at the University of Kent, I realised that I wanted to go down the art root more. I managed to graduate with a first in Curating even though I had no prior knowledge or understanding of art or the art world and I believe I was able to do this because of my methods of research for any upcoming assignments. My methods are tried and approved and they worked for me, and they might work for you.
I am dyslexic which means I do struggle with grammar and spelling, but I am more than capable of academic research, writing and planning. Having dyslexia also means that I am understanding and patient. I know what it is like to get a bad grade and I know what it takes to improve them. Bad grades can feel embarrassing, demeaning and isolating, so having someone you can talk to is important.
In my undergrad, I went from my lowest grade of a 25/100 in my first year, all the way to my highest being 78/100 in my final year. I have been on both ends of the grade spectrum and I understand what it is like. Although having these learning difficulties can be challenging, I am able to offer effective unconventional learning methods that have personally worked for me. My approach to private tutoring consists of ensuring the comfort of the student. Whether that will be online or face to face, I aim to work around each students needs as I believe the fundamental rule for learning is that the student should have a safe work environment. I will offer a first appointment which will be a consultation about the student’s expectations and requirements. I will use the information that the student has given me and appropriately mould my lessons around the individual needs.
I can also offer tutoring based on how to find scholars and write an essay. I feel this is important for university students as most universities do not offer this to their students. They expect students to already know how to write in an academic style which is not the case. As stated previously, in my first year of uni I was getting grades as low as 25/100 for an assignment. Once I learnt how to find scholars and write academically, my grades went to an average of 75% across all modules.
I can offer help to anyone studying an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in art history or just history as I have experience and understand what is expected in both.

My technique is not to be another boring lecture that shows lots of slides and does not let you talk. Instead the lessons will be driven by what you want to learn and how you like to learn. In my experience the more engaging the lessons is for you, the more you learn. I would say a good lesson is between 40- 1.5 hr. If you are looking for an Art history tutor to help look of over essays, dissertations and for gaining further tutoring in certain artistic, curatorial or historical areas, I am here to help.

I am willing to accept offers on my hourly wage. I understand that we are experiencing a cost of living crisis, and I do not want to discourage anyone from receiving academic help. If you feel my prices are too high and you cannot afford them, feel free to message me anyway and I will try help in any way possible.
