About Simon
Greetings! I am Dr. Simon Poole, a dedicated chemist with a PhD in Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Biology. As a full-time researcher, I explore cutting-edge advancements in drug-DNA interactions, with publications in leading journals such as Nucleic Acids Research and Methods. My academic journey began with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from DCU, where I graduated in 2019. I achieved my PhD in early 2025 and I am an active member of the Royal Society of Chemistry. Outside the lab, I enjoy playing music, which keeps me inspired and energized to share my passion for science with students.

With five years of experience teaching and mentoring, I have worked with students at various levels, from university undergraduates to secondary school students preparing for the Leaving Certificate. For Leaving Cert students, I provide targeted preparation, covering the full syllabus, analyzing past papers, and teaching exam strategies to boost confidence and performance. As a researcher, I bring up-to-date knowledge and enthusiasm to my tutoring sessions, offering insights into advanced topics for students pursuing chemistry at higher levels. I offer flexible online tutoring, using digital tools like virtual whiteboards and chemical simulations to create interactive lessons. My goal is to help students not only achieve top grades but also develop a genuine curiosity for chemistry. Whether you’re aiming for an H1 in the Leaving Cert or exploring university-level concepts, I’m here to guide you every step of the way.
