About Naomi

With a strong background in the UTeach Natural Sciences program at UT Austin and teaching in the Austin area, I’m committed to using personalized teaching strategies that cater to a student's unique needs and learning style. My teaching style incorporates first understanding where you are currently and your overall goal for the future. To meet your goal, we can work through practice problems involving real-world phenomena and hands-on activities to expand your thinking. A typical lesson plan may involve explaining what you think a concept is, then pinpointing some of your "knows" and "need-to-knows" for that topic. Then, we will go through a hands-on activity exploring the topic and explaining how the activity relates to what you need to know. Afterward, we will conduct a series of assessments to determine where you are and how far you are from your goal. Assessments can be short quizzes, written responses, or verbal explanations. If we are close, we will do a final assessment/project to showcase you have mastered the material. Typically, I like to incorporate research-based activities for students to take ownership of their work and learn how to be a scientist. Lessons can range from general natural sciences (7th-8th grade) material, chemistry or biology high school content, research prep for college, or learning how to practice scientific or research methods accurately. With my biology research background throughout my undergraduate studies at UT and my chemistry experience as a teacher, I'd be a great resource in pursuing your goal of succeeding in science. Lessons are most appropriate for grades 7-12.
