About Iris
My main goal as an art tutor is to support students work in their academic learning by developing their individual artistic skills and encourage authenticity. Throughout my academic life, I have had creative spaces where teachers have made me feel a lack of confidence in my art and out of the classroom. From these specific situations and professional training, I am dedicated to making a safe, thriving environment for my pupils to express themselves through their work so they can flourish and grow artistically with my support.

My approach to teaching is flexible to benefit the student’s needs and interests. Normally I would ask what the pupil wants to improve or practise giving us an opportunity to communicate how I can accommodate them as an artist. I would usually do at least 1 1/2 or 2 hours but I am happy to have a conversation about creating an environment that you are able to get the most out of a session without time restrictions. I have taught art at a primary school level in Tokyo as an assistant teacher however I am able to teach at any age to help improve portfolios, interviews, art techniques including painting and/or drawing in examples such as figurative work, still life, portraiture (people and animals) and illustration. I teach from the ages of 8-19 helping expand your art coursework for exams and scholarship portfolios for secondary education or university courses as well as leisure. For my qualifications I have received two Art and Design scholarships and a B in A Level Art as well as an A in my Art History A Level which has supported my academic knowledge and my art practice. I am currently in my second year at university studying Experimental Arts and Performance at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama where I intersect my performance training and visual art practice.
