About Christabelle

My music journey has been bedazzled by a multitude of performances, masterclasses and competitions. However all this would not have been possible without the help of all my music tutors during my journey. I believe that a teacher is one who keeps the passion and fire in the students ignited. They have an important duty to never let that flame die. My music tutors have always been my pillar of support and inspiration. In Singapore, a country known for Science, Technology, Engineering and mathematics (STEM), choosing to be a musician takes a gargantuan amount of courage as it is a road less travelled. My music tutors have chosen to believe in me when many did not.
Hence, when I graduated from Junior College, I immediately applied for music teaching jobs to hone my skills in educating younger children. I rapidly gained a number of students as I am able to explain complicated technical terms into simple explanations and I am flexible in my teaching style as I am able to cater to every student's unique needs. Teaching gives me a sense of fulfilment when I see my students progress and enjoy their classes. However, to me, merely teaching my students how to play the instrument was not enough. One of the main essence of being a musician is being on stage and performing. Just like how my teacher inspired me and taught me how to use music to storytell, I organise performances for my students and aspiring musicians from the neighbourhood to participate in. In this manner, I am able to share my knowledge and music to my students and they are able to share their music to the audience just like I did when I was their age.
Through the journey of preparing for the concert, students not only learn the technical music skills but also life lessons such as grit, perseverance, humility and curiosity. I also often perform at the end of each concert as a way to inspire and set an example for my students. I want to show them that music is not just about getting all the notes right. It is also about conveying a message, telling a story and touching the hearts of audiences. Many young children will often come up to me and tell me that they want to be like me when they grow up and they really enjoyed performing and showing their friends and family what they could do. It is always so heartening to hear these young musicians say that as it felt that my role as an educator and musician has truly been fulfilled.

I usually teach kids with fun and colourful harp books. This helps engage the younger students more. I also use simple analogies to break down difficult concepts. My lessons are built on positive reinforcements where students will be rewarded for completing tasks!
Lessons range from 30min to 1h depending on grade and age of students.
I have been a tutor for almost 5 years. I have taught private lessons, in music schools and after school clubs.
My lessons are for ages 4 to adults. Beginners to advanced levels are all welcomed. I do not think age should stop one from learning music.
