About Mardi
I am a friendly and enthusiastic Aussie taking a break from the Southern Hemisphere and working in Ireland for a while. I enjoy the challenge of communicating complex concepts in succinct ways, and helping students to enjoy learning as much as I did in my schooling years (sometimes all it takes is a good teacher!). I have a wealth of experience working with children in an educational setting, as I worked for an interactive science center leading school groups and science-themed birthday parties for three years. I believe effective teaching can only come when there is trust and respect from both parties, and so I approach lessons with a professional and warm manner. My approach to teaching mathematics depends entirely on the learning style and needs of the students. I am a firm believer in allowing students to make mistakes - after all, they're the only things you learn from! I also understand how critical it is to understand the 'why' in mathematics, and I am aware that this is often overlooked in schools. When a student can explain a concept back to me, I am satisfied with their understanding. I also use anecdotes and gamification to assist in teaching. The length of the session should also be dictated by the student and their needs. I worked for a tutoring service in Australia, Tutor2You, for two years, and privately for a number of clients during that time. The subjects I taught were mathematics and English. In 2022, I finished a Bachelor of Applied Data Science, with high distinction. In high school, I was the top of my class for English, Biology and Psychology. I have worked predominantly with senior students (ages 13 to 17), but am willing to take on junior students as well.
