About Nicholas
Hello!
My name is Nick and I've been tutoring math and physics since high school. I graduated from Dartmouth College with a BA and BE in Electrical Engineering. During undergrad, I TAed and tutored for the digital electronics design course, and also worked with high-school students on their coursework. After getting enough Fourier transforms and differential equations to last me a while, I joined the Peace Corps in Guinea where for two years I taught math (trig, calc, stats) and physics to collège and lycée students in French, the official language. In this time I've learned a lot about learning and mastery, and can work with anyone to understand anything!
I worked as a TA for two years in the engineering department at Dartmouth and also taught high-school level math and physics in French in Guinea while serving with the Peace Corps. Peace Corps pre-service training is particularly rigorous regarding pedagogy and student engagement, and I learned a lot about mastery, understanding, and overcoming roadblocks.

Depending on the material, I will typically make sure all the building blocks that are needed for the work at hand are understood, and if not, review them before attempting the actual problems. If there's a serious lack of understanding, I like to follow the "Me - We - You" framework where I'll demonstrate a foundational problem, then we'll work on one together, and finally, the student attempts one on their own.
I've worked with high-school students on algebra to high-achieving engineering majors all the way to Guinean students living in a small village in the middle of the mountains. What unites them all is how they can achieve mastery of their subject.
