About Catherine
I have ten years experience at various universities in Melbourne, Australia. I have recently taken a long leave from academia in order to focus on writing. This is what leads me to online tutoring. I am a cultural sociologist, with profound understanding of diverse interpretations of human life and social systems. My teaching approach is dynamic and inspired by questioning the value of ideas and their applications to real life contexts. I focus on material and tangible consequences of knowledge, social movements, cultural attitudes and trends. I have lectured and written about LGBTQ+ history, culture, communities and literature. Engaging with practical, real world examples is the core of my teaching approach. I am especially concerned about the influence of technologies on global society. For my students, learning should be a process of self discovery and self actualisation. A typical lesson will be decided on the basis of the needs of my student. This includes essay writing, research, understanding course material and offering detailed feedback. I can also offer in depth discussions, intellectual guidance and culture. As an experienced teacher in the fields of sexuality and contemporary identity, I have also worked two years with Melbourne research center (ARCSHS) aimed at practical change and improvement of access to LGBTQ+ health and wellbeing. I offer specific/focused lessons for university students or simply in depth discussions /guidance with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.
