About Lara
My journey in art began in elementary school, where I found joy in drawing elegant profiles of women from the 1800s—or at least, my imagined version of them. They were adorned with ribbons, cloth, and delicate jewelry woven into their hair. Their features were exaggerated—tiny noses, impossibly full lips—but I loved creating them, so I did. I also remember attending a ceramics class from time to time, shaping pinch pots and sculpting lizards that were fired in the kiln before we took them home, each piece a small testament to my growing creativity. In middle school, I discovered the after-school art club, a space I cherished. The art teacher encouraged us to explore freely, and I embraced that freedom. I still recall crafting a tiny felt duck perched on a blown-out eggshell I had spray-painted yellow—a whimsical, delicate creation that stayed with me. By high school, my artistic pursuits had quieted somewhat, but the desire remained. I enrolled in an art class and later found my way into Tech Theater, where my creativity expanded into larger-than-life forms—paper-mâché trees, an erupting volcano, and painted stage sets. The thrill of bringing imagined worlds to life rekindled my passion, setting the stage for the artist I would become.

If you would like to draw, come draw with me. I am an oil pastel artist and I like to draw with bright colors in a portrait format. Sometimes the faces look realistic. Sometimes the faces are more abstract. Sometimes I draw animals or plants instead. However, the overarching theme for me is that I love to notice and pay attention and draw things. Come draw with me! I'll show you what you've been missing, what you've been thinking about getting back to, but just haven't yet. It's never too late to play and explore again. You ready to draw?
