About Carlos

I'm Carlos, and drums found me before I really understood what I was getting into.

I remember the first time I sat behind a kit. I wasn't thinking about technique or timing or any of that. I just hit something and felt it in my chest — and that was it. I was done for.

Everything else came after, but that feeling is what kept me coming back every single day.
I've played in a lot of different situations over the years. Rehearsal rooms, stages, studios, late night sessions that went way longer than planned. Different genres, different bands, different tempos and moods and expectations. And all of that taught me something that no lesson ever could — drums are physical, emotional, and deeply personal all at once. You don't just play them. You feel your way through them.

That's what I bring into every lesson. Not just the technical side of things — though we absolutely cover that — but a real understanding of what it means to play drums in a way that actually connects with people. The kind of playing that makes a room feel something.

I've worked with complete beginners who'd never held a stick before, kids who just needed someone to channel their energy in the right direction, adults who always put it off and finally decided to go for it, and experienced players who hit a wall and needed a fresh set of ears. All of them belong here.

I'll tell you something most drum teachers won't — the technical stuff is actually the easy part.

Sticking patterns, rudiments, reading charts — all of that can be taught and learned with enough repetition. What's harder, and what most lessons completely skip over, is developing your internal sense of rhythm.

That deep, almost instinctive feel for where the beat lives and how to own it. That's what separates someone who plays drums from someone who is a drummer.

That's the thing I focus on building from day one, no matter your level.

Here's what our lessons actually look like:
We start where you are — no assumptions, no skipping ahead, no going back unnecessarily. Just an honest look at what you've got and where we're taking it.

We work on real music. Not just exercises in isolation, but actual songs and grooves that make the whole thing feel worth it. Because it is worth it, and you should feel that in every session.

I pay attention to the stuff that often gets ignored — how you're sitting, how you're holding the sticks, the tension you might be carrying in your arms without realizing it. Small things that make an enormous difference over time.

And we talk about feel. A lot. Because you can be technically perfect and still sound like you're reading from a manual. The goal is always to sound like a human being who means every hit.

Lessons move at your pace. Some weeks we'll push hard. Other weeks we'll slow down and really sit inside something until it clicks. I follow what the student needs, not a fixed schedule.

If you've ever felt the pull of a great groove and thought "I want to do that" — that's enough. Let's start there
