I place a strong importance on students taking an active role in their own learning experience. This means that I am often strict, but fair. I encourage students to ask questions and to challenge methods that they feel do not work for them. I believe that students who feel comfortable in speaking out against outdated or ineffective teaching styles are more likely to find one that truly works for them.
