About Eric
I love children and their natural capacity to learn. It’s sad to see how children can lose interest when they don’t feel comfortable sitting for long hours, to have toxic classmates or getting scolded unfairly by teachers. I do demand basic respect but I also work to earn their respect by respecting them in return by listening to them, trying to understand them and adapting my lessons to suit their learning style. I speak English in my lessons though I may use a little Chinese or Malay (I was born in Penang) if necessary but I don’t feel adequate to teach mother tongue languages.

Students would connect better with teacher if have more frequent weekly lessons. Minimum twice a week is recommended. Having fun in learning rather than stress the student by pushing harder if student needs motivation to focus. Rewards might be necessary initially to cultivate right attitude. Listen, repeat. Watch, repeat. Teacher do, student do. Learn basic things really well, then can learn faster by ‘chunking’. Math is a language of numbers that helps you understand business, money and engineering. Science is the language of reasoning, of asking questions, to understand cause and effects, to investigate what happened and create from that reasoning. Language helps us understand stories, tell stories ourselves, learn better when we can understand the teacher.
