About James
Hi, I’m James, an experienced maths tutor with nearly three years of teaching both online and in-person. I have a strong academic background, achieving 11 grade 9s at GCSE and 4 A*/As at A-Level, including Maths and Further Maths. I also ranked among the top 500 mathematicians in the UK in the 2021 Senior Maths Challenge. I integrate this into a holistic approach for learning, building confidence and deepening understanding. I tailor each lesson to individual needs, preparing thoroughly in advance to ensure a highly effective learning experience. I primarily teach online via Google Meet, using interactive tools and digital pens to enhance engagement. I work with students from Year 1 up to A Level, helping them strengthen their mathematical abilities while fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Aside from being a penultimate year economics student at UCL, I play rugby, box and weight lift.

I have always found maths straightforward both to learn and then apply in exams. This is a result of my learning style and approach to problems, which I would love to share. I will attempt to find areas in which you are weaker, so in future lessons I can reinforce knowledge to help understanding. I will then provide tailored practice questions which I will work through with you in order to solidify this understanding in an exam-like setting. If your weaker areas are already known, we can begin straight away with this process!

James taught my son on a different website, Preply. He is a thorough, knowledgeable and passionate tutor. He always goes over and beyond the scheduled lesson time, prepares materials and plans in advance of each lesson, and sets lots of extra work for my son to get on with between lessons. I honestly cannot recommend James enough. If you are looking to improve at Maths, look no further!
I can’t recommend James enough! I was hovering around a Grade 7 in GCSE Maths and lacked confidence the tougher problems. James regularly checked in to make sure I was comfortable with the material and found creative ways to help me understand. I am thrilled to say I ended up with a Grade 9 in my final exams!
