Understanding the use of the alphabet in English is very important, so that is what I will teach first. If you can spell one word, you can adjust the rest. Learning by doing is the right solution for understanding English, because to consider that English is a skill that one must learned is the first mistake that is often made by students. Speaking English must become a habit in order to be mastered, and I will be a student's English talking friend as long as he needs to be fluent.
