About Carmen
Hi! My name is Carmen. I have recently graduated from University gaining my masters of education and my degree in English.
I love to read and write, go for long walks and spend plenty of time with my partner, friends and family- and my cats! I’m currently working on something too, but that’s top secret!
I am not a teacher but a tutor, here to support you with what you are currently working on.
I am also currently studying my TEFL qualification, due to complete by August this year. I have experience working with English, Chinese and Russian speaking students aged 8-14 and have also worked with mature students in order to assist their functional English skills.
I also have some experience tutoring for the 11+, which I intend to build on.

First, we will schedule a free meeting to build a profile of student in order to help to the best of my abilities.
In each lesson, we will have learning outcomes to meet and tasks to work on together, and independently. Some will have time restrictions too.
At the end of each lesson, student and I will discuss what went well and what they need to improve on.
I always write reports at the end of lessons, and log all learning outcomes achieved in order to track student progression.

Price is including the teaching time, lesson preparation and provision of feedback and access to help with homework etc via Email. I can always work around financial situations so if you are on a budget, just ask and we can try work something out.
Packs always include 1 extra hour on top, or if you want to bulk buy - multiple free hours will be added on, to be discussed.
Lessons will be scheduled to work around both parties, and there are no consequences for cancelling last minute, all I ask is that you tell me you can’t make it! :)
Lessons are held via Google Meet, Microsoft Teams or Skype. Please send details prior to our first meeting regarding the best mode of contact for you.

Please be ready to share things that you like in our first session, this is so I know how best to teach you so that you enjoy your lesson. I also make every lesson tailored to what you currently enjoy, with fun themes and links into our work.
I will ask you things like:
Which way do you prefer to learn?
Do you prefer using visual aids or not?
What’s your favorite book?
For our first meeting, cameras are required the entire time. But going forward, you only need to have your camera on at the beginning and end of the lesson, I do not require you to have your camera on at all times. Of course you can if you wish, I have this point because students in the past have needed more privacy and I now wish to cater to anyone regardless of what’s happening at home- there’s no need to feel embarrassed if maybe mums doing the laundry behind you, your dog is jumping for joy, or your sister is learning to throw her toys- regardless, your comfort is priority, so cameras are not needed 24/7 - rather than you having to feel uncomfortable about asking if you can switch it off etc.
During our lessons, my aim is for you to feel listened to, completely free to ask anything and to be able to learn anything to the best of your ability. Know that I believe in you as my student and I will try my best to help you with everything. It’s amazing to see the end results of hard work and determination, and if you work for it, I promise you- you will succeed.
I want to ensure you can relax and enjoy working through whatever you are struggling with, with no pressure from anyone else, all the time and space to ask any questions about your work - even the silly ones (they are never silly to me).
During a lesson, if you need to leave, let me know - that is alright. I want you to enjoy your lesson as much as possible but also to be able to pay attention to the tasks at hand, and we can always go back to things.
At the end of a lesson, we will discuss what we need to work on, so be ready to have a chat!
We will always have a quick game at the end of the lesson based on what we have learned.

Perfect! Carmen is super friendly and a very calming figure. She made my daughter at ease and made the lesson very fun which in my eyes is one of the most important things when it comes to teaching children. After observing Carmen teaching on multiple occasions, I think she performs well with her students, building personalised lessons that remain fun, whilst teaching a lot. Carmen is very efficient and professional whilst she is teaching, building a lovely rapport with all students. Her attention to detail and instruction is most impressive. I would highly recommend her to enhance any students English attainment.
I've observed Carmen teaching on multiple occasions, she is very good at what she does. She's even going to help me get my gcse in English which is amazing of her because I really struggle with it. I've been her best friend since we were 11 and now we are both 23 (well nearly for Carmen) and even at that age she was brilliant at English. I would highly recommend her to anyone.

First 30 min session is our free consultation. During this session there will be some trial work to see how you get on with certain ways of learning, so half of this time will be spent doing that. Please let me know prior to this session some small details about what you like to read etc.
