About James
I have taught and tutored for 20+ years in math and science. I have taught hundreds and hundreds of students. I have earned an excellent reputation among the students who will tell their friends and peers to take my classes. They will say, "he is tough but fair and you will learn the material." I have often received feedback from many students who tell me that I was the best teacher they had and that were it not for me, they never would have gotten through calculus. Overall, my students have had high success, both in terms of completion rate as well as passing rates. My students have earned higher than average grades for a subject than other classes of the same course. I have taught in many venues - in the classroom and online as well as one on one tutoring (both in person and online). Students feel comfortable with me. I am able to create a setting that is conducive to learning.

I am an oceanographer and fisheries biologist/aquatic ecologist. I am well versed in mathematics, fluid dynamics as well as biological principles. My method of teaching is to present the concepts, principles and techniques along with examples. As it i my opinion that students learn best when they try the problems and apply the concepts to a situation at hand, I then give students exercises of varying levels of difficulty for them to practice, gain efficiency and proficiency as well as confidence in their abilities with of course my guidance.
