About Claire
I am an Australian writer, having recently graduated with a Master's Degree in Classical and Contemporary Text from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. I am the editor and creative director of Girls Will Be Girls, an online arts journal, and I have written for The Artifice and TNF Magazine. I have been shortlisted for Playwriting Australia, and worked as a proofreader for a number of independent Australian and British writers. I have been a visiting lecturer and artist in residence at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. I have worked with a variety of students at different levels, from tutoring young primary school students in English, to assisting with workshops for MSc Playwriting students at the University of Edinburgh, helping them to edit their works-in-progress. I have also assisted with examination preparation panels across English and Drama subjects in Australian secondary schools. In my approach to tutoring, I employ techniques to inspire confidence in my students and give them the creative space to flourish and take risks at their own learning speed. I concentrate close attention on the student's pre-existing methods of study, in order to tailor my approach so that each student receives personal, accommodating and interesting tutoring. We examine the core constructs of the English language, basic principles of different styles of written text, some useful elements in crafting spoken text and exercises to help build confidence and skill in various performance modes. Additionally, we can work to develop an awareness of the body and voice in space, and together with the student, curate an analytical eye for approaching both English and Drama-based coursework.
