In mathematics and the sciences from what I have learned from helping my fellow classmates is that following the kiss principal from engineering which stands for keep it simple stupid is the best approach to either of these subjects. I was told by my economics professor is that if we can't explain something to a five year old we actually don't understand stand it fully ourselves.
