About Mousumi

I am a fully qualified Engineering graduate with PGCE and QTS in Secondary Maths teaching. To date, I have tutored over 700 hours of lessons to students on different teaching platforms and so I have worked with a range of students with different abilities and know how to motivate and teach a student for them to achieve their maximum potential. Students have gone up by two grades after attending my sessions and achieved their desired grades.

About the lesson

Prior to my lesson I would discuss with the student if there are any specific core skills of Maths they would like to cover. My lessons will always have a prior learning check in the form of a diagnostic check to assess the student's current level of understanding. What happens in the lesson - At the start of the lesson, I will do a quick 5-minute recap of what we covered last week and whether they had any questions regarding that. I include retrieval questions to check the student's prior knowledge and include a lot of examples in my modelling before I hand out independent practice questions to reinforce the skills learnt. I explain the conceptual understanding of the topic by connecting with real-life examples or contextualising in their vocational context and then a methodical approach which gives a solid foundation for the student about that topic. I also make my students acquainted with exam questions from the topic as a stretch and challenge.
