I speak English as my mother tongue, I grew up in South Africa. I have lived in France for 16 years and speak French fluently but for my personal work as a writer and film-maker, English remains my first choice of language.

Buster Keaton's films convey everything that his funny and tragic about human experience, without using the spoken word. He throws his whole body into engaging with the physical world, it's joys and its pitfalls. He is on the edge of being completely out of control, and he masters this fragile and unstable condition. There is something in his rawness and poise, and in his deadpan, auto-derisive humour which expresses something of Anglo-saxon culture. When teaching English, I try to encourage students to take the risk of starting a sentence without knowing how they will finish it. The uniqueness of your way of expressing yourself is more powerful and direct than preparing in your head the perfect sentence before you open your mouth.

English is a very universal language, being able to speak it opens up new possibilities in all spheres of life : society, culture, travel, work opportunities.

The main difficulty with english is that it's rules are frequently broken, both in grammar and in pronunciation. For this reason, while learning it, it is important to both hear and speak it as often as possible. But for French people, the main obstacle is to stop being afraid of making mistakes. Mistakes are less of a problem in Anglo-saxon culture.

I come from an artistic and film-making background and practice mainly in these spheres. From these disciplines I have learnt the importance of listening, empathy, collaboration and teamwork. Communication, the way one chooses ones words and the tone one uses to express them, is vital for one's growth and development, as well as for the projects one is involved in.

I grew up in Cape Town and Johannesburg, in South Africa. I have travelled to neighbouring African countries like Mozambique and Senegal. I have also travelled several times to the United States and to Brazil and Argentina in South America. Before living in France, I lived in London and Amsterdam for about 3 years. I return regularly to Holland and the UK, as well as Belgium, Germany and Italy for both work and personal reasons. Other countries I have visited and enjoyed a great deal are China and Poland.

I am enthusiastic to meet people, and to get to know them and help them overcome the obstacles they may have to reach their goals. Teaching opens one to the richness of the world and its many domains and I learn as much from my students as they do from me.
