About Karlee
I am a college graduate with a Bachelors in English. I also studied art and view the written language as a form of art. Whether poetry or literary analysis, the agency one acquires from developing an opinion is what I find most inspiring about this subject. Opinions are not necessarily assertive—they can be shown through stories, rather painting a linguistic picture. My greatest goal is to help your voice be heard. Sometimes this requires 'speaking someone else's language,' however I do not believe that means compromising your intent. I begin tutoring sessions by establishing a plan of what the tutee wants to accomplish. Often tutees pick a section of an essay they would like to review and/or certain characteristics they would like to refine, such as word choice or sentence structure. This is how I maximize the time spent with each tutee.
I was an office assistant for a college tutoring center and participated in their weekly training and staff meetings. From this experience I educated myself on appropriate social approaches to tutoring, with consideration of limitations regarding accessibility. This education was acquired through the reading of scholarly articles, followed by collaborative discussion. Additionally, I tutored students ages 4-12 for a semester in Dublin, Ireland.
I work with kids ages 5-19 (or up the college freshmen).
