I have been a Private Tutor for 35 years.
I have never been like any other teacher I know.
After 3 and half decades of Teaching &Tutoring, I remain vigorous & excited to see my students week after week, month after month and year after year.
Between 2002-2022, I lived in New Zealand, China and then Portugal, teaching locally in top private & public schools (and hundreds of kids privately as a tutor).
These days my teaching is 100% ONLINE.
Previously, fully analogue; I am now 100% digital, yet I remain old-school in some vital ways.
My Bachelor of Education degree (a 4 year course) led to 10 years teaching in Britain, before pivoting to 15 years teaching internationally in New Zealand then China, before pivoting again to 7 years online teaching after gaining a TESOL certificate.
My private students are my world: They stay with me for years - It's not an exaggeration. I have taught entire families across generations.
As a great listener, a details person and an innovator, I set class content at the level of the student, rather than make the student fit the curriculum; A CHILD-CENTRED APPROACH to EDUCATION.
For this last reason specifically, I often work with students who don't fit the mould.

For classes I use Tencent VOOV / Zoom / WhatsApp video and WeChat
The very First Trial Class is FREE. I use it to get to know a potential student and their motivations (or lack).
For 2025 and as a new teacher at this site, I will offer those who purchase a block of 10 or more classes an extra class to be added for free at the end.
I set minimum rather than maximum session lengths. Most classes are 50-55 minutes, but some run between 25 minutes (for young English language foreign students) to easily 2 hours for occasional long-form adult engagements: I don't charge more for those. Some students require (and expect) exactly 1 hour. That's fine, too.
Often, sessions end due to next class scheduling, my need to walk a dog or where a student hasn't the time.
Mostly, in my mornings I see Kids in China; who find me by word of mouth; and Adults all over Europe the rest of the time. I teach some sporadic lessons in the afternoons as time zones require. I see UK-based kids and adults after school, in the evenings & at weekends.
A number of Chinese kids have been with me every week for 5 years; between ages 5 to 18. Adults tend to do a year or two (at most) toward a specific aim - but not always; 2 adult ladies have been learning English and having mentoring with me since 2022.
Also. with 1 adult foreign male I was his study partner for 18 months (5 nights a week) towards his MBA (in English). I have now been teaching his daughter every Saturday and Sunday for 2 years. I helped them arrive and to acclimatise to life in the UK from Ukraine in 2022.
I devise a bespoke curriculum using general collected and invented materials for each student category. This usually lasts a minimum of ten sessions or so. After that, the direction of travel and delivery of content for each student is unique.

I tutor every day of the week; 2 - 4 hours a day. I have spaces for maybe a maximum of 4 more at the moment.
Students are unique; teachers ought to be, too.

BLOCKS
5 sessions (*paid for at the start of a block) = £145

MULTIPLE PAYMENT OPTIONS are available using A) Direct Transfers (to my Monzo a/c), B) QR codes/ links sent to you and paid using your preference at my website, or C) Paypal (F&F) . The whole globe is covered with these options. Revolut/ Alipay / WeChat Pay / Unionpay / Visa / Mastercard / and many, many more.
If you CAN'T MAKE IT to a scheduled class, but INFORM ME me at least 5 DAYS IN ADVANCE - no problem: We can simply continue in your usual slots(s) next time.
If you tell me between 5 days and 24 hours before the scheduled class, you can reschedule by choosing from 2 or 3 alternate slots in the same week.
BUT, If you tell me less than 24 hours before a scheduled class without a VERY GOOD REASON - the affected class will be forfeited.
(Annual or school Holidays are exempted anyway, as are up to 5 days per year for sickness. You'd be surprised how many kids want to see me in their holidays)
Also, I know some parents know they can trust me as A STAND_IN CHILDMINDER - and many parents use me for this exact purpose (after they have vetted me, of course) so they get on with other chores or whatever without the need to take time out of their day to drive to me, which is better for the environment too; bonus!)
