About Lucy
I am a secondary school English teacher, recently graduated from a top Russell Group university, with a degree in English Literature and Classical Literature & Civilisation, writing a first-class dissertation analysing the jewellery of ancient Egyptian queens! I am enthused about my subject, with a particular interest in American literature and romantic poetry. As a recent graduate, I am up-to-date not only with current literature, but effective approaches to teaching and learning. My lessons are well-structured and well planned, with access to resources I also offer additional lessons for GCSE and A-level History, as well as GCSE German, including 30 minute speaking sessions. While studying at university, I was employed as an English and German tutor within a secondary school. Particularly, I worked with students between grades, helping to push them into the next boundary, with a high success rate. Since graduation, I have undertaken a PGCE in English and History, with a job secured from September to begin teaching English at a secondary school. I am well-versed in exam preparation, techniques and specification from GCSE to A-level. I am offering online hourly lessons for secondary school aged students of all abilities. These sessions can include: - GCSE content preparation for both English Literature and English Language. - A-Level content preparation for English Literature. - Structured GCSE and A-Level essay writing practice. - Grading and feedback of GCSE and A-Level essays. - Support with university applications or EPQ write ups. - Support with creative writing and planning. Before the first lesson, I can make an assessment of the student's needs, structuring learning outcomes and goals for future sessions. Following this, communication with both the student and parent is crucial to me, to make sure that each lesson is tailored to the student's individual needs, ultimately supporting them in making progress.
