About Mackenzie
My name is Professor Andrews!
I graduated from Covenant College with a Bachelor's degree in English and a writing concentration. I went back and got my Master's of Arts in Teaching degree that focused on English education and allows me to teach grades 6-12!
I think English should be exciting and relatable; I find the best way to approach an English class is through discussions and writing workshops that allow us to dive deeply into the lessons.

I approach learning from a relational point of view; it's important for my students to be able to find some sort of common ground with the material we're working through. As an ELA teacher, I find that creating an environment that gives students the opportunity for discussion allows for a deeper understanding of the material. I value group work, discussion, and opposing opinions as it allows students to see the many different views that go into literature.
A typical lesson plan usually begins with a writing prompt, independent reading, or the opportunity to finish work from the previous day. I begin the lesson by briefly going over yesterday's lesson and how it fits into today's lesson. Then there's an overview of what today's lesson is and how we're going to approach it. I model the lesson and the expectations for the students and then have them work on it independently or with other students.
I'm certified to teach English classes from 6th grade all the way through 12th grade.
