About Sommer

After 24 years in the classroom I am still energized about teaching kids. I have worked with all ages over the years in all aspects of the language arts. I am certified by the state of Florida in Reading K-12, ESL K-12, English 6-12, and Educational Leadership K-12. I currently teach AP Language and Composition but I have taught reading from Pre-K through adulthood, Middle School English, American Literature, World Literature, British Literature, AP Seminar, and Writing across my career. I hold a BA in Literature from UCF and a MS in Educational Leadership from NOVA Southeastern. I have been employed with my current school for 9 years and I worked at my previous school for 15 years. I am reliable, kind, dedicated, and passionate about reading. I would love the opportunity to help grow your child's skills.

About the lesson

I can assist in reading skills from Pre-K through adulthood. Reading is more than just sounding out a word, it is a complex intersection of many skills. I provide instruction in developing those skills and integrating them through: phonics, sight words, image-based comprehension, repeated reading, read-alouds, and fluency activities. I provide dynamic lessons that are interesting and quickly improve the skills of my students. The lessons are comfortable and fun, so time flies and so do scores!
