About Andrea
Hey.
My name is Andrea Fingerson. I am hoping to become your, or your child's, tutor. I know there are a lot of tutors on this website for you to choose from. And I am sure that all of them have their strengths and their weaknesses. I know I do. Everyone does.
But I think that you should choose me to be your tutor because, for me, it's more than just a job. Education is a calling. It's my calling. It's one of the most precious gifts I have been blessed with.
Writing is another.
I love the written word. I love language and communication. There is beauty and power in words, both spoken and heard, both written and read.
Here are my credential: I have a bachelor's degree in English, a Single Subject Teaching Credential, also in English, with a Supplementary Credential in Child Development. I earned my Master's Degree in Fine Arts in Creative Writing with a Focus on Fiction. I was a High School Teacher for more than 14 years, ten of those as an English teacher. I worked in education before that as a tutor, and as a Child Development/Pre School-Teacher.
I can tell you my credentials: I have a lot. But I hope you choose me, you entrust me, to be your tutor, or your child's tutor because of the love and respect I have for the field of education, and for the written and spoken word that I can help you master and utilize to share your voice with a word that needs it more than ever.

As an English teacher with 14+ years of experience, I know what your teacher wants to see written on the page and how to help you accomplish the academic expectations needed to get the grade you want.
As a creative writer, I know how to help you push your written voice past the boring academic levels and into a cadence that is uniquely your own; and that will blow your English teacher away.
We will focus our sessions together on what YOU NEED the most help with. Do you struggle with breaking down the assignment, organizing your thoughts, or putting them to paper? (I can help with READING COMPREHENSION too.)
I will guide you through the entire process: understanding the prompt, understand the literature/topic, brainstorming your thoughts and opinions about the topic, and articulating them in verbal or written form (so for presentations/debates, or essays/writing assignments, including the dreaded college application and scholarship essays).
The vast majority of my experience is with high school students, but I can help middle school and college students as well. I've even had the pleasure of working with some upper elementary students.
Remember, your voice is important. Your thoughts and opinions deserve to be expressed: you deserve to be heard.
My job is to guide you to take ownership over your voice and your composition. You can and will, grow to know WHAT you WANT to SAY about a particular topic, and HOW to say it in your OWN VOICE so that others understand your unique message and want to take action on your suggestions.
