About Phoebe
Hey, I'm Phoebe! I love working with children and young adults to help them reach their full academic potential and deal with the stress caused by exams. Having completed my GCSEs in 2018 and A-Levels in 2020, I understand the toll exam preparation and stress can take, and also the effort required to maintain ongoing high effort for multiple months in the build-up to exams. I am also very familiar with the newer GCSE system (grades 9-1), and think my recent experience of the exams will really help in guiding the way I teach.
My commitment to helping others with learning and revising is shown by the fact that I set up and ran a GCSE History revision club when I was in year 12. This was my own initiative, and I gave over a lunchtime every week to helping year 10s and 11s prepare for their GCSEs, for free! The students I worked with have said they really benefitted from this additional help, and they all achieved great results.
Please see the 'about the lesson' section for my academic qualifications and modules studied.

I will focus my teaching around the needs and points of difficulty for the student, especially when approaching exams, as it is important to gain clarification on areas of confusion rather than brushing them under the carpet. I believe that asking the student questions which they may not have considered is a great way of probing what they know, as it makes them think about whether they really understand something fully, or have just memorised the information which has been presented to them.
I am happy to teach up to 1 hour - I think beyond this can start to make focus difficult for the student (from being on the receiving end!).
I have not worked as a professional teacher or tutor specifically yet, though at school I ran GCSE History Revision Club, where I worked weekly with GCSE History students to go over the materials they were revising for exams, and helped with exam technique and preparation. My academic achievements are as follows:
A-Level: A* English Literature, A* Sociology, A* Psychology, A History.
GCSE: 8s in English Literature, English Language, Maths, Physics, Religious Education, and History; 7s in Spanish, Chemistry, and Biology; a 6 in Computer Science, and an A in Resistant Materials.

Phoebe honestly saved my Sociology A-Level, could not recommend her enough! I enjoyed the subject but wasn’t too fond of my college teacher as his methods weren’t engaging enough for me, and so I began to fall behind at the start of Year 13. When I started with Phoebe, we created a schedule for what needed to happen before exams and had weekly sessions tackling the topics I was struggling in (mostly Research Methods and Beliefs). These sessions were HUGELY beneficial and far more engaging than college lessons. Phoebe used lots of her own work from her A-Level Sociology notes to help me with structure and material, which I would pick apart and also use to revise specific Sociologists. The powerpoint's were always very informative and clear but never overwhelming, and she would send me the material after each session to use in my own revision time which was so useful but also motivated me to revise on my own. We also got on really well and clicked from the very first session which was lovely and just made me feel comfortable and able to be honest with my abilities as I wasn’t afraid of being judged for not understanding certain things at all. I was absolutely thrilled on results day to find that I had received an A in Sociology after I was expected to get a B or C! Anyone looking for a tutor should definitely consider Phoebe, I could not speak more highly of her.
