About Niven
My sessions are laid-back and casual, just like me. At the same time, we'll remain focused and diligent. I think it's important to feel mentally and physically comfortable while learning, otherwise we can be distracted and "somewhere else" in our heads.
Learning can be easy, and learning can be difficult. Easy wins keep us encouraged, but difficult wins with "ah-ha" moments are the ones that shift our perspectives and have the ability to change us. Everyone can learn, and everyone can grow - so why not try?

My philosophy is simple - in order to make tutoring as effective as possible, it's essential for a tutor to truly understand the tutee - their personality, the way they think, etc. I pride myself on taking the time to learn who I'm tutoring, and then tailoring sessions so that concepts stick accordingly.
Before we start, we'll discuss what you're looking to get out of our tutoring sessions. We'll talk about both long-term and short-term goals (i.e. in the long-term - improve analysis skills; in the short-term - work on an essay that's due soon).
I generally tutor two types of students - those in high school and middle school that want help with assignments/writing skills in general; and adults who are either prepping for the GMAT verbal section or learning English as an additional language.
