About Shepard
Ever since I first held a guitar, music has been my way of expressing emotion, and teaching allows me to share that passion with students. Holding Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Music, I combine formal training with 12 years of performance and teaching experience. I start lessons with foundational techniques like posture, finger placement, chord transitions, strumming, rhythm, and tone, gradually moving into improvisation, phrasing, and creative composition. Music theory is integrated naturally, connected to songs that students enjoy. Each lesson is personalized to the student’s goals, pace, and style, creating a motivating and supportive environment. I emphasize both technical skill and expressive artistry, helping students communicate through their instrument. Ear training, sight-reading, and performance preparation are included to build well-rounded musicianship. I introduce students to diverse genres such as classical, jazz, rock, blues, and pop to expand their musical vocabulary. Lessons balance structure, creativity, and fun, ensuring steady growth while maintaining engagement. I provide feedback, practice strategies, and guidance for overcoming challenges. Milestones are celebrated to encourage motivation and confidence. Students are encouraged to explore, compose, and experiment with their own musical ideas. Over time, learners develop technical proficiency, artistic depth, and a personal musical voice. Teaching guitar is more than instruction—it is mentorship and creative collaboration. My ultimate goal is to empower students to play with confidence, emotion, and authenticity. Every lesson is an opportunity to inspire growth, creativity, and lifelong love for music.

Every lesson is a journey of discovery, and my role is to guide you through it. With 12 years of teaching experience and advanced music degrees, I bring a rich, structured approach to guitar education. My lessons begin with the core techniques—strumming, chords, and rhythm control. From there, we explore melodic patterns, fingerstyle techniques, and creative improvisation. Each class balances learning with enjoyment, keeping you inspired to practice. I teach theory through real-world examples from your favorite songs.
Students develop listening, timing, and compositional skills along the way. I use exercises to build strength, accuracy, and speed progressively. Performance skills and stage readiness are also part of my curriculum. Lessons are adapted to suit individual strengths and challenges. I provide consistent feedback and motivation. My approach ensures continuous improvement and musical freedom. By the end, you’ll understand your instrument deeply and play it confidently.
