About James
I grew up in Buxton, Derbyshire, achieving excellent school grades across many subjects. For my GCSEs I achieved A*'s across all Sciences, Maths, English and Drama. While I love art and literature, I decided to specialise in science for my A Levels, pushing myself and studying 4 full A Levels across Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Further Maths.
For my further education, I chose a unique path of studying both a science and an art which, while unorthodox, gives me a very special skillset not many people carry. My BSc in Chemistry, along with my work as an archival consultant, has given me strong academic, organisational and problem-solving skills. My MA in Acting, along with my work in performance and immersive theatre, has given me strong public speaking and people skills, as well as a better understanding of how people think and respond. Most of all, I understand how different every educational journey is.
I am outgoing, friendly and have a good understanding of people and what they need to learn and retain information.

I believe it is important to understand a student's current level of understanding of a topic before teaching. The areas they already understand should be bolstered and reinforced while the areas they struggle with should be approached at new angles. Without this, students can receive conflicting approaches and information to topics they already have a good grasp on which can be overwhelming and confusing.
I always strive to meet each problem with an open mind and a toolkit full of possibilities. You never know what method is going to resonate with each student and I am always patient and ready to change tack based on their progress.
