About Mountain
I have over three years experience teaching English as a foreign language (EFL). I have three master's degrees in accounting, management, and teaching. I'm a native American English speaker but I have also lived in Guatemala and China. Needless to say, I have a lot of experience with academic and business writing, but specialize mostly in improving oral communication skills.

My strongest focus is on developing communication skills that closely approximate the word choice of a native speaker. Developing verbal fluency often means "unlearning" some of the practices taught in many ESL textbooks. I usually encourage the use of contractions (for example, "couldn't", "couldn't've", "it'll", etc.) because an English language learner will most likely hear these contractions in everyday language of native speakers of all backgrounds. Moreover, I encourage the use of phrasal verbs (which are often problematic in the development of English language skills). Most importantly, I contextualize the learning experience by connecting language as much as possible to the real-life experiences of my learners (so that students aren't forced to learn phrases and words that they will rarely use). I am confident in the efficacy of my teaching methodology because I have been teaching long enough to hone my skills.
