About SarahJoy
I am an experienced teacher with over 30 years of working with secondary students and adults in both school and university settings. My teaching career spans special needs students as well as teaching master's degree courses and coaching foreign students in academic writing and thesis preparation skills. I have taught and tutored English, Maths, History and Politics as well as English as a Foreign Language. As a neurodivergent teacher myself, I specialise in working with students with ADHD, focusing on techniques to improve focus, organisation and engagement in lessons and exams.

My tutoring approach is student-centred and adaptive to student's personal learning and cognitive needs. I focus on building learner confidence and independence through personalised scaffolding and formative assessment. By using a growth mindset framework and differentiated instruction, I tailor each session to the learner’s personal needs and preferred learning style. I also integrate critical thinking and real-world application to promote deeper engagement and long-term retention. My goal is to create a supportive learning environment where students feel empowered to take ownership of their progress.
