About Jacob
I've been a high school debate coach and English teacher for over a decade and tutored high school and college students since 2015. My background is in English literature, law, and philosophy, but I am also a very experienced test preparation tutor and teacher, focusing on ACT, SAT, and GRE verbal and writing. Many of my students have achieved excellent scores on standardized tests and gone on to highly selective colleges, including every Ivy League school, Stanford, U Chicago, and top public and liberal arts colleges. In my free time, I like everything from restaurants to music to video games, and regularly compete at trivia events alone and with friends.

I have almost ten years of experience teaching high school English, including both AP classes, creative writing, core curriculum, and public speaking. I've been tutoring for more than five years. As a tutor, I've worked with middle school through graduate school students and covered a wide range of material including writing, SAT and ACT prep, GRE verbal and writing, and college essay preparation.
My teaching method is to work closely with each student as an individual and get to know their goals, learning strengths, and what they want to improve. I have a wide range of materials, including lessons and presentations of every step of the writing process, how to break down multiple choice questions, how to approach essay revision, as well as my own literary expertise.
I work best with students who have rigorous academic goals and want to achieve strong results, and students who like tutoring sessions to be relaxed but efficient. These lessons are ideal for high school or college students working on English, writing, or any other humanities classes; or test preparation.
