About Jerred
I am an electrical professional with 20 years of experience in power generation and electrical transmission and distribution environments. I have fourteen years of power generating experience in multiple platforms (submarine nuclear, CFB coal, natural gas) in which I held multiple positions (auxiliary and control room operations, instrumentation and controls technician). During this time, I earned ISA CCST certifications (level 1 and level 2).
I have 6-1/2 years of substation protection and controls experience in which the last 4 years, I have served as a supervising technician. This experience includes the installation, testing, and validation of distribution, sub-transmission, and transmission voltage level equipment (relays, circuit breakers, CCVT's, current and potential transformers, meters, RTU's, PLC's, etc.) as well as making engineering corrections as required.
My undergraduate education is in electrical engineering emphasizing power systems from Arizona State University. My senior project is based on the justification, design, and simulated interconnection of a 200 MW solar photovoltaic generating station in Central California. Multiple programs were used during this project: PowerWorld for performing normal and contingency operation analysis, transient stability studies, short circuit duty analysis, and calculating protective relay settings. Python and NREL System Advisor Model was used for the design and calculations of the generating station.

My main method for providing instruction is the EDGE technique (Educate, Demonstrate, Guide, and Enable).
Educate: I educate by going over the material myself. Sometimes hearing the material from a different person with a different delivery can help in understanding a concept.
Demonstrate: Demonstrations can be working problems, describing concepts, or providing examples that I have seen from my 20+ years of professional experience in power generation, transmission, and distribution.
Guide: We will work through problems together and will coach you as you build your confidence.
Enable: My ultimate goal is to enable you to succeed independently. I'm not satisfied until you can say that you understand a concept better than when you came for help.
While there are many great instructors, I believe that my past education and experiences uniquely equips me to help you understand concepts in my field. I look forward to working with you!
