About Sidney
Hi! I’m Sidney, a passionate and dedicated elementary educator with experience teaching both general education and special education. I am currently a 1st grade teacher and have completed my Master’s degree in Special Education with a concentration in Learning and Behavior Disorders.
Throughout my teaching experience, I have worked with students with a wide range of academic abilities and learning needs. My background in special education has strengthened my ability to break challenging concepts into manageable steps, provide individualized support, and use different strategies to help students succeed.
I believe learning should be a positive experience where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and celebrating their progress. I strive to build strong relationships with my students and create a supportive environment where they can develop both their academic skills and confidence.

My approach to tutoring is centered around making learning engaging, supportive, and personalized to each student. As a certified elementary teacher with experience in both general education and special education, I understand that every student learns differently. I take the time to get to know each student, identify their strengths and areas for growth, and adjust my instruction to meet their individual needs.
I use a variety of teaching methods and techniques, including explicit instruction, modeling, guided practice, hands-on activities, visual supports, questioning, repetition, and positive reinforcement. I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable making mistakes and asking questions, so I work to create a positive environment where students can build both academic skills and confidence.
A typical lesson begins with a quick check-in or review of previously learned skills. From there, I introduce the new skill using clear, age-appropriate explanations and modeling. We then practice the skill together before giving the student opportunities to apply it independently. I incorporate interactive activities, games, visuals, and real-world examples whenever possible to keep students actively engaged. Each lesson ends with a brief review and a discussion of what the student learned and what we will continue working on.
What sets me apart is my background in special education and my ability to differentiate instruction. I have experience supporting students with a variety of learning needs, including students who benefit from additional modeling, repetition, accommodations, structured routines, and individualized instruction. I am patient, encouraging, and committed to finding the strategies that work best for each learner rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.
My lessons are primarily designed for elementary-aged students, including kindergarten through fifth grade, who need support in reading, writing, phonics, comprehension, math, study skills, or general academic development. I also welcome students who receive special education services or who simply need additional practice, encouragement, or a different approach to help concepts click. Whether a student needs help mastering foundational skills, catching up academically, preparing for an assessment, or building confidence, my goal is to make every lesson meaningful, successful, and enjoyable.
