I am focused on tutoring for understanding of the subject matter, completing homework, and nailing tests. I understand that everyone is different, and I tailor my approach to the unique needs of the student.
Depending on the goals for the student, I will tailor the lesson plan to either prepare a student for a course, or achieve excellence (and good grades) within a course.
Given my mechanical engineering and computer science background, my specialties for tutoring younger students are math/physics (algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, AP calculus, AP physics, etc.), and for college students, dynamics, kinematics, thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, aeronautics, and data structures & algorithms.
I prefer to follow the curriculum of the book being taught for the exact course, as I find it to be more efficient and translates to better grades in less time. If tutoring is sought in preparation for a course, I will try to find the book that will be used in the course, or an old copy of the book, to lesson plan from.
I recognize that everyone learns differently and has a different ability to focus (depending on the subject). I try to make the sessions as effective and efficient as possible. I also teach broad-based learning skills throughout sessions, as I understand that learning how to learn (efficiently) is one of the most important skills to have.
