I think the best way to teach English and Literature is to get kids interested in reading and to incorporate multiple subjects into lessons. History, social studies, and science can be incorporated into English and reading lessons and made interesting. I like to use a fiction (or sometimes nonfiction) book about one of these other subjects and design my English lesson plans around the book to maximize learning and allow for a multifaceted approach. I have experience both as an assistant teacher and as a certified ESL teacher. I am comfortable working with students from grades K-12, as well as adults who are looking for help learning English as a second language.
