About Jake
My name's Jake and although I'm local to Melbourne, I've lived in France for several years. Based between Marseille and Paris, I have a vast knowledge of experience adapting to French local dialect, humor, and sensibility. It's true what they say... What they teach in the classroom is so different from how people actually speak. On top of this lived experience, I have been formally trained in French grammar (level C1). I studied many years at L'Alliance Française de Melbourne and completed several courses in Advanced French at RMIT. This combination of lived experience and formal training means I can offer the best of pronunciation, vocabulary, culture and grammar!

My teaching approach is a combination of engagement, patience and challenge. For several years I've privately tutored students varying in age; from teenagers studying for their VCE exams, to adults diving deep into French. After years of studying French in classroom settings, when I moved to France I was not prepared as I thought I was. For this reason, I make it my priority to challenge and surprise my students in a way that not only teaches them French language, but French socialization. Perhaps you are looking to steal the heart of a French waiter on your next holiday? Perhaps you are looking to see the world differently? More poetically? I'm a big advocate for earning language within the life you live now. I build off the vocabulary and themes of what interests my students in their everyday life and then expand outwards.
