About Melissa
I am a Specialist Literacy HLTA with over three years’ experience delivering 1:1 phonics, reading, and literacy support to SEND and EAL students. With a degree in Theatre Arts Production and Creative Writing, I bring creativity and engagement to every lesson, helping learners develop fluency, comprehension, and confidence in reading and writing. My literacy tutoring sessions use a structured, phonics-based approach designed to build reading accuracy, fluency, and comprehension through clear, progressive instruction. Lessons are highly individualised, focusing on each learner’s specific areas for development while reinforcing core literacy skills. Each session includes a balance of targeted phonics and reading activities — such as practising key sounds, blending and segmenting words, and developing understanding through guided reading and vocabulary work. Over time, this approach helps students strengthen their decoding skills, improve fluency, and gain greater confidence in reading independently. In addition to structured literacy instruction, I can also provide dedicated time to support students with their own classwork or homework, ensuring they can apply their reading and writing skills effectively across the curriculum. Sessions are available online or in person, and are always tailored to the needs of each learner — whether they require consistent intervention or ongoing literacy support to maintain progress.
