About Katrina
I am a passionate educator with a strong academic background in mathematics and machine learning. I hold an Honours Specialization in Applied Mathematics and a Master’s in Data Science and Machine Learning, graduating with a 4.0 GPA. Beyond my studies, I serve on the advisory board at Eastern University for their School of Mathematics and Computational Sciences, helping shape the future of math education.
Currently, I am the Machine Learning Math Lead at Cohere for AI, an open science research lab where I teach the mathematical foundations behind cutting-edge AI algorithms.
With over 15 years of tutoring experience, I have helped students of all levels—from high school to university—develop confidence in math. My passion for teaching extends beyond the classroom; as a karate coach, I have honed my ability to break down complex concepts into clear, understandable steps. With over 15 years of tutoring experience, I have helped students from Grade 9 to third-year university excel in mathematics. My approach focuses on building a deep understanding of concepts rather than relying on memorization.
My Teaching Methodology:
Each lesson begins with a clear explanation of key mathematical theories, followed by step-by-step examples to show how they apply to real problems. I then guide students on how to generalize these concepts, ensuring they have the confidence to tackle new and challenging questions on their own.
What Sets Me Apart:

I have successfully tutored students with learning disabilities, autism, and high anxiety around math, as well as gifted students looking to push their understanding further.
